actually, the way i understand it is the cops are on rotation, some time on the street ticketing you, and then they match that all up with like a day in court... you legally are allowed to face your accuser in court.

Actualy... if you read most tickets in ANY state.. if you want to plead not guilty you have to call in advance and plead not guilty.. that is to insure that they can have the officer in court to testify to his actions...

they do that here to cut court appearances.. so you don't have to keep coming back.. once again i can only comment on NJ state law.. because that is where i live, but i actualy just got a ticket the other day and it says.. "if you wish to plead not guilty please notifiy the court no later than one week before your scheduled court date" you do not HAVE TO call, but if you do not, and you plead not guilty.. then they HAVE to reschedule it, unless the cop happens to be on duty then they will call him in... because the person who is atesting to your crime HAS TO BE given ample time to appear in court in a trial situation.. most traffic cases NEVER go to trial, but if he is NOT there you can ask to have it dismised do to lack of prosectution..(which is lack of witness really) any way yeah that will never happen because he is a cop and gets paid to be there.. if you do what i said to do, you should be fine..

get a written statement from the guy driving the truck that he could see you in your rearview and in his opinion you were not following too closely. also get a written statement from your passenger stating how the cop acted, he asked you where you were from, any drugs etc. they might get irate if you bring in a witness, but written statments from witnesses show that you know what you're doing and you are confident in your case. most guilty people don't care, so they dont think, and they go and get tickets. if you go, dress nice, fix your hair, dont stink, and act professional, i'd almost guarantee it'd get thrown out.

good luck, and let us know what happens.

Cops in Jersey are dicks. My friend got pulled over when he was moving home from school, and the cop thought he was stealing stuff (like someone would be stealing his dirty clothes and blankets). THEN, my friend had sort of opened the door and not closed it hard enough, so when he reached for the door to re-shut it, the cop freakin' pulls a gun on him!
I went to traffic court for driver's ed once (we had to go to observe), the judge was hella cool. Dress clean and be respectful as you plead your case. Bring your witnesses and make him believe that you've worked hard to prove your innocence.

unfortunately a written statement is not very effective.. only because UNLESS it is noterized, the validity of it will be questioned... and even if it IS noterized, and the case were to progress to trial.. the witness would then need to be issued a Subpoena to appear, because the written statement of someone carry's little weight in court in regard to subjective NON FACTUAL information... IE.. without the witness there the prosecuter can't question the witness with questions like "well tell us.. were you loking the whole time.. how were you able to watch... blah blah blah.. " so he would probably move to dismiss a written noterized document containing opinion.. best bet is to bring the guy there with you.

they never show up in WA. So most people get off extremely easy. Why would a cop waste his time no a weekend or some day to come in a fight a petty 200 ticket? he has better things to do.

because court is NOT on the weekend ANYWHERE.. lol and that is why they have you call in to plead not guilty (or reschedule if you plan on pleading not guilty)... so he is SCHEDULED to work the same day as court... if what you were saying is true why even write the ticket..

and beyound that.. it IS part of HIS job...
