no clutch in 2nd gear

i have a 98 civic ex, there was couple times I was like playing around with the shift stick, then I accidently put it in 2nd gear without stepping on the clutch, is this normal?

It's not good for your tranny, but it's normal. It's called speed shifting.

They are what syncs your transmission spin speed with your engine when you shift. If you didn't have sychros, you'd have to double clutch all the time.
