what we're saying isn't that you can't drive a civic...it's that you are still quite inexperienced in potentially dangerous situations, and you're probably better off driving a beater around for a few years. that way, even a crash won't kill your bank account. a car, its maintenance, and upgrades are not easy for a 16 year old to handle. now i'm only 21, but i learned to drive on a beater, and no matter how confident i was and am in my own driving, i am glad i spent a couple years with that old car, truly learning the ropes on the road. and you'll learn a lot more 'real' stuff about cars if you have to do some repairs on an older car. adding CAI, exhaust, etc, doesn't teach you anything about truly working on a car.

umm... i was once a 16yo driver. i took lots of driver's ed and drove with my parents ALOT. i wasnt the best driver, but i was, and am still better than 90% of the drivers out there. just b/c he's 16 does not mean he cant drive a civic.
i was lucky enough to drive an accord since i had my permit. the week after i got my lic, i lowered it. a month later i had a AEM cai and greddy header, etc, etc.
my older brother got the car new when he was 16, i got it when i was 16, then my lil bro got it when he was 16. he learned how to drive on a lowered car with a kit.
in the neighborhood i grew up in, kids had all sorts of crazy cars... everything from a tt supra to a e39 m5. some kids always crashed they fancy cars, other didnt. you really cant judge

no one is saying he can't drive a civic. i'm just recommending him learn how to drive on some old beater car that he doesn't care about. Alot of people make alot of stupid mistakes when they are learning how to drive. Why? Because they are learning how to drive. Just because the state gave you a laminated piece of paper saying that you can drive, does not mean you know how to drive. All i'm saying is get a beater car in case something bad does happen, you'll spare yourself from heartaches when your nice project car gets all jacked up.
