make sure the plugs are gapped right. that happened to me, and it was because one of the plugs was almost closed.

i forgot about that..good idea. they are probably gap wrong :thumbup:

replacement engine, blowing black smoke...

my guess, you have a bad valve or two. Your head will need rebuilt most likely. Thats what it sounds like to me at least. have a compression check done

First, like you said, replace plugs and wires and dist cap, if you really don't notice a difference, keep them anyway, they should be replaced every so often anyway, it's regular mainanance. But, if you don't notice a pickup, and you're still running rich after those replacements, have a compression check done. You may either have a bad head (vavle bent/broken) or your head gastket is kaput, although i don't think that this is the problem.

I am not god, I am not a professional mechanic, take everythign you read anywhere on the net with a grain of salt.

ManInCamo - i had a compression test done right after i had the motor swapped and i noticed it was blowing smoke. the compression was good on all 4 cylinders

so... WTF?

If worst comes to worst, get the ***** over to my place in Mn and I'll throw one of my spare engines in. I'll do it cheap too!

haha...you have a bad wire...come to my shop and ill swap you a new engine..haha
