Default Simple Valve Adjustment Question (D16Y7)

1) I got the cylinder head cover off, but I can't seem to get the plastic upper cover off the timing belt. It's caught between a hose for the A/C and some kind of plate for the alternator. How can I get this upper cover off?

2) Where are the feeler gauges supposed to go so that I can check the valve clearance?

Thanks in advance for any help you guys can give me on this!

If you notice in that DIY's pics, he doesn't have power steering. That's why he gets his upper timing belt cover off so easy. If you have a power steernig pump/pulley, it gets in the way. Loosen it up and you can slide the hose out of the way enough to get the upper timing belt cover past it. Just don't forget to re-tighten and re-tension the p.steering belt!
