Too Much Oil?

Too Much Oil?
Girlfriend owns a 1994 Honda Civic DX, just had her 90K service done by a VERY good shop with lots of experience and many happy customers including myself. However, she went to check her oil level after having all this done, and if you push the dipstick all the way in and check the level it shows over. If you push the dipstick in to where it stops, not clicking it in all the way, it shows right between the dots... Does anyone know which is correct for her car? She has no owners manual, the car was purchased used or maby DX's dont come with owners manuals, hahaha. Anyway, my `02 RSX-S shows to put the dipstick all the way in and thats what I thought you were suppose to do on all cars. Its just hard to belive this guy would overfill the car with oil, but I guess mistakes happen, I just wanted to check before letting some out...
Thanks in advance!!

I think it will be ok. It also depends on when she checks it. If it's checked right after the engine is shut down, there is still oil in the valve cover that has not settled yet.
Either way, you should always push the dip stick in all the way when you check the oil.
Also, it's not going to hurt the car to have .3 quarts too much oil in it. I would leave it alone. The only time it hurts the car is when you put like 2-3 too many quarts in it, or like someone I know, fill it up to the top.

I laughed and laughed at him. He asked how much to put in and I said 3.5 quarts. The oil came in gallon jugs so he put in three gallons and couldn't fit in the last half gallon. He started it up and it smoked to beat hell. Then he wondered what was wrong.

Actually, people who think you should see the oil coming up from the filler hole aren't that rare. I helped a friend change his oil on his e30 bimmer for the first time a few weeks ago and he didn't know how much oil to use. I told him to look it up but he insisted that it should be fine to add more because he couldn't see the oil coming up to the filler hole yet. I didn't want to see a smoke show so I had to tell him...
