Default Switching Oils between synthetic and non-syth

Does it damage the engine in anyway to switch to synthetic for some time then go back to the normal stuff?

Nah, clean conventional oil is better than dirty synthetic.:P

Some people will argue that you should stick to one brand, but I've yet to see proof that it really matters.

i dont see how one brand could make conventional oil that is drastically different from another brand. Sythetics may be another issue, but we'd need a chem engineer to explain it all to us.

It isn't the oil... it is the additives. Cheaper the oil, cheaper the additives.

u shouldnt swtich back and forth between syth and conv. when the oil sits in the engine, the metal actually absorbs it. conv and syth dont mix well, so the parts in ur motor may not be as lubricated well

This is a myth - almost all major oil manufacturers now offer a half/half product. Still, Synthetic is chemically engineered from the ground up, and is actually better. I did a lot of research on it last year, regular motor oil has different sized molecules IE unstable, where as synthetic has all uninform sized molecules.

What this means? In VERY short and direct terms, it means the smaller molecules in regular oil break down due to heat much faster than the larger molecules. The larger molecules do not lubricate as well.

Synthetic is better, it's your engine, don't you want to treat it well? (it's better because it's "designed" to have MUCH higher heat tolerances, and a uniform lubricating molecule, as opposed to natural dino-gook.)

Mobile 1's about the best of the synthetic brands. (for domestics at least)

IMO, as long as you change your oil every 3,000 miles, it's not going to hurt much. but i'd just stick with synth. better for the environment too.
