Sounds like it's leaking exhaust right up at the head. If you check the torque on the bolts there, I'm sure you'll find they're loose. When you're in the upper RPMs it will push the manifold away from the head, and cause a leak... I had the same problem, and know the smell you're talking about. Check it out, can't hurt to try.

hmm... my accord used to smell when i drove it *really* hard, or over 100mph for extended periods... i just assumed it was normal

i dunno my old motor did that in my 93 si. it had about 130,000 miles on it. now that i got a 99 gsr swap, it still smells like somethings burning sometimes when i mash the throttle. either its normal or dunno?

take off the heat sheild, I think it's 3-4 bolts, and thy're normally rusty. Then the bolts that actually connect the manifold to the head are the ones to check.
