EGT gauges work off a sensor that is mounted onto your exhaust manifold as close to the head as possible. There is no standard EGT information. What your gauge will read is most dependant on where the sensor is mounted. The best way to use one is to install one and get a baseline of your temperature. Say for example 1200 degree's F coming out of the head (exhaust is hot). Now your driving down the road and the sensor starts reading 1400-1450 (general considered the danger zone, but like I said, it depends on the application and installation) you know something is wrong. Your engine is running lean/hot and it would be a good idea to find out why (failing injectors, failing fuel pump ...) before you head gasket goes or you melt a piston. It does a similar function as an Air/Fuel (A/F) gauge but is a little more reliable as most A/F gauges that use the stock O2 sensor aren't very accurate.

EGT's can be used for tuning, but aren't the best. It takes time for temparture to change and the gauge to read it and it's also hard to isolate certain rpms unless your on a dyno. For example, say your running rich at 4000 rpm and you want to lean it out with a fuel computer like a V-AFC. It's going to be hard to isolate that rpm while driving on the street, make the change and try again to get a reliable reading to see what difference it made (harder at even higher rpms). They'll give you a good overall view of how rich or lean your engine is running and are a better alternative to an A/F gauge but their more expensive and harder to install too. Seeya.

Sorry, I forgot the other question. The B20Z (and B20B) are out of the Honda CRV. The motor itself is very similar to the B18B that is found in the '94+ Integra LS's except the cylinder sleeves have been replaced and the engine has 3mm of extra bore (basically, 3mm wider pistons). This means the B20 has more displacement than the other B-series engines. As far as torque goes, there is no replacement for displacement (at least when N/A) and the B20 makes around ~135 ft/lbs of torque while the 1.8L B-series engines only make around ~125.

There is some more work that is nessicary to swap a B20 into a Civic. CRV's use a different tranny than an Integra or Civic so you must find a B-series tranny from an Integra, Civic Si or JDM car to use. Most likely you will also need several B-series mounts to mount the engine and tranny in the car (which depends on what generation Civic he has). Also the factory intake manifold on the B20's can't be used, it's not designed to fit in a Civic and it won't. Any B-series manifold except the B18C1 will work in it's place. You will also need the correct LS ECU and the normal B-series wiring modifications to make it run along with B-series shift linkage and axle's. It can be swapped in, but it's not as simple as simply pulling an LS engine just swaping everything over. Seeya.

The "crvtec" is a common swap with the b20 block. Take the b20 block and throw on a b16, gsr, or typr R head.
