fire extinguisher safety
hey i was just wondering, whats the vibe around here for having a fire extinguisher on the trunk? you know, just part of some safety stuff you'd have ie, cones, first aid kit etc. is it safe to have a extinguisher or will it blow up if it sat there?
was just wondering

I have a red automotive Walmart-bought fire extinguisher strapped in the trunk. $15.00, baby! None of that chrome $49.99 APC performance fire extinguisher crap.
If your car is modded to hell, then I'd buy it for insurance. If it's bolt-ons or stock, then don't worry about it. However, $15.00 insurance is cheap. I ran it like this for a long time.
Oh, I decided to buy one after someone i knew saw his car literally melt.

thanks for replying but i wasn't getting one because "my car is modded to hell" cause mines bone stock, or actually worse than bone stock. but was just wondering if it was ie illegal to carry, safe to carry. stupid to carry. etc. kinda like a little 5 liter tank of gas etc

Well the problem is making sure it's bolted down right. Like the APC has these plastic brackets and most people put it right on the a-pillar so that thing will fly off at the passenger and prolly explode on impact.
I know several guys who mount it to their roll bar or behind the driver's seat so it' accesible quickly. Trunk prolly would be safe, but how quickly can you get to it?

ive seen a focus go up in flames...only if he had a fire ext...ahhh nevermind, 1 dead focus isnt going to kill anything, it was probably a factory defect anyhow.
but my neighbor works for fire rescue and he carries one in his car all the time. it wont explode, just read the directions and temp regulations...also you would need to give it a test every so often, just b/c you have it, it might not work correctly...im going to pick one up soon and keep in the hatch.
