Default coolant level

hi, i have a 98 civic ex d16y8, for some reason my coolant level jumped up higher than before. I checked the coolant level yesterday and it was sitting at below the MAX line, today i checked, it was way over the MAX line, almost fill to the top. and i checked it when the engine was still running. Anyone know why?

thx!!!

jordan88,
Did you bleed out the cooling system last time you changed the fluid? I usually just crack open the bleed bolt while I'm filling the system up, but I have seen people run the car with the radiator cap off until the system is up to temp.

Well when the engine is warmer the coolant level should rise. Heat makes things expand.

I would also try bleeding the system WHEN IT'S COLD! Take off the radiator cap, start the car and let it warm up. Air bubbles should come out of the system
