Can running too rich damage your engine? From what I understand, the cylinders could become gas-soaked causing fuel to get pass the rings and into the oil. Then you have the potential problem of oil break-down and internal parts wear.

The reason I ask is because I have a 92 CIVIC hatch with a new 2.0litre build from Import builders. I'm running a T3/T04E garrett and a Hondata Stage2B ECU. My 720cc injectors are dumping gas like mad. But I can't get to ATL until next week to not only have the car dyno-tuned, but tuned for daily driving as well.

Should I run my stock GSR injectors until I can get the car tuned, or does anyone think a weeks worth of driving (about 800 miles) will hurt anything?

 

I dont think it will hurt anything, but you definately have a good amount of carbon on the top of the piston. It wont damage it, but its not good for it either.

 

take it easy on the car, put your stock injectors back in, and don't forget to run a fuel system cleaner for a gas tank or 3 when its fixed.

1 week you should be ok.

 

You could foul out your O2's

 

O2 sensors will be fouled, Cat will be burned out, and tons of carbon buildup everywhere :-(

 

WOW!!! Thanks for the quick response, fellas. I'm temporarily putting my stock injectors back in until the engine is broken in and I'm ready to head to Atlanta, GA for my tuning session. made the appointment for next Friday. Just hope that the stock injectors run OK with the Hondata ECU. Should be OK, I think.

On the way home I got an error code 43. I think that's like "fuel supply system". What EXACTLY does that mean? I was hoping for error 45 since that's the lean/rich error code. I'm also thinking that my o2 sensor is a little messed up now, but that's OK. I'll just pickup another one tomorrow.

Someone give me their input on the fuel supply error that I got (43). The car continued to run OK when the check engine light came on. Hope it's nothing major. My fuel pump is a Holley 255lph and seems OK as well.

 

If it is only for a few weeks, I wouldn't worry a bit. But for longer periods the gasoline will "wash" the thin film of oil off of the cylinder walls and cause premature piston ring and cylinder bore wear. not

 

Ahhh... the premature piston ring wear, etc. ended with a "not". does that mean... I'm OK. I promise you this, though. It's running SO rich that the car hardly idles (and will sometimes shut off). I know my A/F meter isn't the most accurate, but it does sit in the green all the time where it used to only do that on acceleration... even at idle. It'll shift to yellow between gear shifting, and to red when coasting to a stop, but as soon as my foot lightly depresses the accelerator.... 3 flickering green bars!

I'm putting the stock injectors back in simply because it's hard to come to a stop... getting the right gear, using the hand brake and applying a little bit of gas to keep the car from shutting off when decelerating for anything

 

I was stating that running rich for extended periods is "not "=not cool.
