Default timing belt change

hey,

so i always hear that if you're gonna change your timing belt, then it's a great time to change your water pump. but me and a friend were thinking, why would you change the water pump if it works. i mean, if it spins there is nothing wrong with it. is it just for preventive measures?? also what else would you guys change if you were gonna do a timing belt?? thanks!

The reason I changed my water pump while changing the timing belt was because the water pump sits behind the belt and it's hard to tell when the pump is going bad or has gone. The first sign is antifreeze leaking from the timing belt cover but since it is so time consuming just to get to the belt you might as well spend the extra $60 so you dont have to worry about it in the future. After you take the time to change your belt, you will know exactly why people do both at the same time. Also, the best thing to have is the repair manual for reference. Good luck!

Make sure that u have an impact socket im not sure on the size for the crank pulley. U have to take that off to get the timing belt off. DO NOT LOSE THE WOODRUFF KEY. It a little piece of metal that on the Crank shaft. But other than that it took me 3 hrs to do it all, proboly would've gone faster but it was cold and dark. Best of luck.
