D2S is for a projector housing. Where as D2R is for a reflector housing.

right...i thought the cl/tl headlights were reflector. So i'm wondering why would i want to convert to projector if the original housings were already designed for the d2r reflector bulbs.

TL headlights are relfector. If you were to go the projector route, you would take the projector, the HID bulb, ballast, etc from that vehicle (Audi, Bimmer, etc.) ...Not put a TL HID system into another manufacturers projector unit.
