Default b16a into my car!

so i'm curious...

i have my 93 civic lx... and if i buy a b16a 1st gen (cable trans) and then buy the HASport EGB1 Kit to make it bolt in easily... do i still need to worry about different axles, shift linkages, O2 Sensor, thermostat housing, OBD1 distributor and injectors, and OBD1 ecu??? i read on jdmhondaparts.com in his engine faq section that if i bought a b16a 1st gen long block, then i would need all that stuff and it would end up costing more etc. etc.... but what if i got the complete b16a 1st gen swap to start with?? and used a cable trans?? basically i want the cheapest swap avail.... i don't even plan on racing, i just want something fun and a little faster than my 100 hp now is there anything else cheaper than a b16a 1st gen swap?? thanks!

You will have to replace the ECU (if you go OBD1 ECU, you don't have to change anything on your engine, you'll just have to run the needed wiring), shift linkage, and axles. This is if you go with a complete B16A1 swap.

You'll have to use an O2 sensor that connects to the B16A1 wiring harness.

Also, for future reference, swap and cheap usually don't go together.

hey,

thanks for the response, i'd say i'm caught in some great pickel!

but i also was wondering about power steering and Air conditioning.... will i still have these things?? is it diff. depending on what swap?? i'd kinda like to keep those, so what swap allows me to keep them? also, will cruise still be working, or is that swap specific too? perhaps i'll just wait and save up and do a b16a2 or b18b or b18c. thanks!

I kept both my PS and AC on my B18C1 swap. I had to use a '97 DOHC VTEC Del Sol AC mount and I just used my civic PS pump with the normal PS pump bracket. Only one of the bolts bolt in and the wing nut won't go on, but it works fine and looks right. It actually wedges on the bracket just right so that it sits like it's supposed to.

You have to do this so that the hose will bolt on. The Civic PS hose won't bolt onto the GSR pump (don't know about B16 pump)

If you don't plan on doing the swap yourself, save the $$$ put the 2nd g B16A and hydro tranny. I have a 98 Teg w/ a 1st gen in it, I fortunately had all the parts, if I wouldn't have I would have bought the 2nd g hands down...

to make it legal, remember the engine's gotta be the same year or newer than your car...
