Default stripped oilpan drain bolt

I just thought I'd show off my foolishness. I think I stripped my oil pan drain bolt the last time I changed my oil. When I tried removing it tonight, it just kept turning and turning. Anyone ever have this problem before? I know I probably screwed up the pan but how in the world do I get the bolt off now?

i put a flat head screwdrive on the bottom of the head, and the rachet on the head pushed down on the handle of the flat head screw driver, and unscrewed, and it gave enough pressure on the bolt to come out.

but that was on my old motor, and i stripped the bolt the very first time i changed oil.

i felt like a tard and a half.

Yep, what he said. Then you have to either get a new oil pan or tap it out to a bigger size drain plug. Or, you can have the old hole welded up and then retap a brand new hole.

I would just get an oil pan from a junk yard. I helped my brother in-law change his oil on three cars this weekend and kept saying DON'T OVERTORQUE the drain plug - it's only made of aluminum. Should be torqued to hand tight or about 30-35ft/lbs with a torque wrench.

Well you could get a new pan or just weld over that bolt and seal it somehow and then drill and tap a new drain plug . . .

Thanks for the advice everyone. I'll probably try retapping it and putting in an oversized drain bolt to keep things cheap. If that doesn't work out, are all D series pans interchangeable?

And yes, I feel like a tard and a half...

i don't think all d series oil pans are the same. I wanted to use a pre-tapped d16z6 pan for my turbo kit and it's not the same as the y8. It's easy to change your oil pan though, there are just 20 somethin bolts that go around it and 2 brackets. I had to take mine off twice when i did my turbo kit and it's not a biggie at all.
