Painting cluster bulbs (EX R8ED)
ok, i know EX R8ED just had a thread about his amber cluster and i was wondering how long it has been done and if it has faded at all. I found that tamiya paint, but it doesnt have any sort of temp on it, If it has faded or will fade, does anyone know of any high temp clear coat to put over it? or of any high temp paint to use instead of tamiya?
Im trying to change my cluster and climate control to match autometer cobalt blue tach. Also, does everything just pull out, other than a few screws? i took out the two screws underneath the upper lip and tried pulling and prying it out, but it didnt work? is that what i do or am i forgetting something? i didnt want to pull to hard and break it.by the way, its a 5th gen civic.

On the fifth gen u have to pull out the hazzard button adn there is a screw there too, then u have toe four screws that hold the cluster. All teh Big Bulbs usally the ones that have the Brown bases, (thats how its on min 93 cx) are the main Illumination ones.

Have no fear EX R8ED is here
Alright guys, so far none of my bulbs have faded and its been about a month now. I've had the cluster bulbs for a while but the climate control bulbs have only been in for 2 weeks and nothing has faded.
As HatchCX stated earlier, you have to get the hazard button off, use a flathead screwdriver and wedge it in there and pull it out, not the actual part you push down (the button part) but the holder for the button, get what I'm sayin? I hope so. Anyway after that theres 2 screw above the cluster. Now pull the outer portion of the cluster housing out. Kinda pull to the side it helped me. Now theres 4 screws that hold the cluster onto the chassis or dashboard, whatever. Unscrew those and pull out the cluster. If you look behind the cluster you'll see a bunch of brown plugs and black plugs, DO NOT REMOVE THE BLACK ONES!!!! Those are for turn signals and other warning lights and such. ONLY PULL OUT THE BROWN ONES. Replace those bulbs with the ones dipped in the paint. Check to see if they light up before you put everything back together. Look for my other post on doing the climate control. Hope this helps buddy. Get back at me if you have trouble.

I was bored a long time ago and used Testors candy apple red that I had left over from painting my tails on the cluster bulbs on my DX cluster. It looks pretty for a while, but then it started fading and by that time I had an EX cluster.
