Default Weird sound while driving. Goes away when clutch is engaged.

I hear a noise coming from my Civic that for lack of a better analogy, sounds like crickets. This is when the car is in gear. I barely engage the clutch, and the sound goes away. Is this the sound of something that's beginning to go? hnoes:

The exedy clutch and resurfaced flywheel have about 3,000 miles on them.

I believe the TOB on my car is in need of replacing also, but on my car there is no noise until you start engaging the clutch. You can only hear it when you're in neutral w/ no traffic, etc. around. That's the opposite of what chef is describing.

I was under the impression that it always made noise w/ the clutch engaged and not the under way around :hsdunno:

either the throw out bearing or some bolts came loose in there causing something to shift giving u that noise. Most likley the throw out bearing tho.

Shit... bolts being loose like the flywheel bolts? Throwout bearings can fail that easily?

Thanks for the suggestions guys. Glad to know there's an echo on the diagnosis.

Your throwout bearing isn't failing. You can wait until the next clutch replacement to swap it out.

Did you replace the throw out bearing when you did the clutch?

The clutch is brand new. The last one was replaced after I got the car. 204,000. :doood:

Yeah. I got an exedy kit. Feels great, but all the sudden, the rattle is coming through. It gets louder from the echo in tight places like off-ramps and stuff.

Yeah.... I'm more concerned with safety at the moment, though. You don't think it could be a flywheel bolt or pressure plate bolt do you?
