Sweet heart you JUST got your drivers liscense a year ago. Personally I think if you did have a car with enough power to beat a saleen or a 3000gt sl, you wouldnt know how to drive or handle it and STILL lose. Baby steps, you gotta crawl before you can walk. Stick with your SOHC for a bit, do some bolt ons then think about doing a swap. By then hopefully you will have done some more research and be capable of making an educated decision on what motor to use.
