Default how's this setup ?

i was at a shop today asking for a price for a sohc vtec head for my civic. and the guy told me i should instead get the head that's already on there port and polished, put in a race cam, a header. and new fuel pressure regulator and the car would be really good. i asked if it's ok for daily use, and he said 'yes'. i never really heard of doing this to the stock D16Y7 cuz it's already a weak engine, but he said it's strong enough to take it. is this info correct? and if so, how will my gas milage be? cuz this car is my daily driver, and i need it to stay with the good gas milage it already gets.

he gave me a price of $1500 (labor and parts) for everything done, but i would just buy the parts and do it myself anyway, so he said $300-400 for just the cam.

am i better off just sticking wit my orignal idea of getting the D16Y8 head ?

(please dont tell me to swap, that will be sumtime in the future, im gonna just keep this motor for now and do work to it)

thanks in advance

$1500 is already close to 2/3 of the B16. Save your money and leave it stock until then.

1500 is enough to buy my turbo kit.

What's the point of putting money into this engine at all if you plan to swap in the future? That seems like a bad investment to me... more like impatience.

If you plan to swap, save all the money that you want to put into the motor you have now and just do the swap when you have money. Otherwise, do FREE things to your engine that you can do yourself. If you have a dremel tool you could do port matching alone and some other things.. think for the future.

my friend jared had a fully built y7 that went high 13's on nitrous... for those of you that remember (built hatch) so sure you could.. a word of advice ( NO DISRESPECT) but do not try to port and polish your own head... there are PLENTY of great DIY things out there.. this imho is not one of them... let a profesional do it.. but outside of that it is up to you.. i personaly would get the Y8 head... and if you don't want to put a bseries in there.. then don't.. its YOUR car..

my friend built a SOHC vtec to run low 13's all day all motor....

but i agree, if you wanna swap in the future dont invest money on this motor.... you never gain back what you invest

I remember him and I'm just trying to give the guy something to do. It seems like he just wants a direction and doesn't want to hear about a swap... cause he's going to swap eventually.. (makes a lot of sense right??)

I wouldn't port my own head either. FYI.
My local machine shop did it. In fact, I wouldn't even port&polish a head if I weren't going turbo. But that's JMO.
