How hard is it to replace the Clutch Master Cylinder and the Slave Cylinder?

The reason I ask is because my clutch started to slip again today, and I checked the master cylinder and it was almost completely empty, and two days ago it was almost completely full. Would getting the master cylinder and the slave cylinder fix this issue or is it possible that it is leaking somewhere along the line?

 

Can you isolate the leak?

It may not be leaking from the slave cylinder, but it is always a good idea to replace both at the same time.

It isn't hard. You can do it easily with a set of hand tools.

 

I haven't isolated the leak, im actually sitting in class right now, though I think that I might as well fix both the Master Cylinder and the Slave Cylinder expecially because I can get them fairly cheap because I have a friend who works at an auto store.

 

You need to find the leak first, otherwise you may be replacing something that is not broken. If your fluid is almost gone, it has to go somewhere.

 

just to re-inforce this.

the clutch fluid system going from the resivour above the master cylinder, all the way down to the slave cylinder is a closed system. There is no way that this fluid can possibly be consumed. There for must have a leak.

now onto the finding the leak.

When tracing the leak...check the pedal assembly and the side of the firewall that faces the driver's footwell.

When the clutch MC took a dump in my DC4, the fluid leaked through the piston seal and into the driver's side footwell. The fluid ran down behind the rubber insulation against the firewall. The carpet showed no trace of moisture.

If I hadn't crammed my head right up against the pedal assembly with a flashlight, I wouldn't have been able to find the trail.

 

Turns out my slave cylinder was leaking, when i was trying to bleed it you could see the fluid kind of pouring out of it, so i replaced both the slave and the master just in case because it wasnt expensive anywho

yes it did, and it required alot of bleeding too which i think i still need to do a little bit more of because my pedal is very loose at the top and only starts to stiffen up a bit at about half way down, bleeding the line some more should fix this right?
