Default What springs and retainers to run!?

Well, I am about to buy an IM for ym car, and I think the next step in my engien build might be the Springs and retainers, the only reason I say that is because i like the added assurance. what do u think i should run. I have CTR cams.

I had supertech titanium retainers and Rocket Motorsports Gen1 springs. I was thoroughly happy with them and they held without a problem up to 9k-9200 at 23 psi.

I think I am going to get some Ti retainers and rocket motorsports springs, but I think I might also get the retainers nitride coated. I just want something for a little more assurance. I will only rev my B16 out to 8500 right now, and the stock redline for a b16 is 8200, so 8500 is ok. I haven't ben able to take it to that yet, because I just installed a clutch in my car. I have about 150 more miles to go then I can tach it out.

yea, but you can't rev out high enough with OEM retainers, I thought they weren't durable enough, plus I am planning on boosting the car soon.

What do you think you're going to gain by "revving out" your car? CTR cams aren't going to make power past 8500 tops and "revving" them to 9000 will accomplish nothing but put additional wear on your valvetrain.

It's obvious that you already made up your mind about what you wanted to do before posting. If you don't want the advice given by people who have built Honda engines, then don't post asking for suggestions.

Because Ti retainers are designed for race cars and/or cars that are torn down on a regular basis to have parts replaced so they're always fresh. A street car does not see benefit from Ti retainers. The metal doesn't always play nice with the metal of the springs and the edges of the retainer tend to wear thin/gall very quickly. I've seen Ti retainers with the edges worn town to the thickness of a piece of paper within 10k miles. The nitride coating helps and a different "interference" fit (ala RM) retainer/spring combo helps, but the retainers can still wear.

You've got CTR cams that won't make power past 8500. OEM B series retainers are more than enough. But in the end it's your car, so do what you want.
