Default Those with Optima Yellow Tops in their civics...

Just wondering if this has happened to anyone else, but my Yellow Top died only after 18 months of use. Wasn't sure if the battery was still under warranty and tried bringing it back (unfortunately, I couldn't find my receipt) for a replacement and Pepboys doesn't even carry it anymore (where I bought it). Apparently a lot of auto parts store stopped (or should I say 'discontinued') the battery and the sales guy kinda chuckled and said good luck finding a replacement.

I don't have anything in my car that would put a strain in my battery (hell, I only have two speakers in the car h: ) so I don't think I'm putting extraneous stress on it. But I was just curious if this was just an isolated incident, or if this has happened to anyone else.

Hmm.. I haven't heard anything about stored discontinuing the sale of yellow tops, in fact i was just at an auto store the other day that had a bunch on display, and they still run the ads on tv and in magazines.

And I was hoping to get one myself so I hope someone else with one replies soon.

Nah, already had it tested and it's dead. Can't even charge it anymore. Already got a replacement (not an optima) but I just wanted to know if others had a similar experience with the yellow tops.

Yeah i had two of them yellow tops in my 93 hatch. I also didnt have anything that is too strainious on the battery. The first one sat for a while in the garage while i swapped my car but it sat on a bench on not on the cement. The next one slowly died. Both couldnt be charged.

Ok well holy crap, lol

Thanks for letting me know before i hopped on the wagon of hope, these seemed to be in EVERY installation in magazines etc. I know you shouldnt rely on magazines but they were seeming to work fine!

What would you guys say is the better battery then, maybe for a street/show setup?
(assuming just a quick street car with a normal show setup: 4 speakers and amp/subs, MAYBE some glow, nothing crazy)

i heard thru one of the distros that went to the shop and he told me is they discountinued them due to something was wrong with the honda batteries.

the odessey batteries are suppose be one of the best ones, i can't remember if the stinger battery uses the same core of not.

also if you are straining your electrical system than a battery won't do much for the long run. a alternator would be a better idea. a battery is only to start the system and the alternator keeps the system going when it started so when your running more amps than what your alternator can keep up with than it pulls from the battery. so the alternator has to charge both the battery and keep everything working.

Also, those parts stores sell them after they have been sitting on the shelves for however long. FooD2000 works at autozone and he told me that they can sit on the shelves of their warehouses for months, even years.

It could be a faulty battery, but it also could be so old that it didn't have much juice left in it when you purchased it.

my two friends had similiar experience with these optima batteries. one had a yellow top with mild stereo system in his sentra, never left it on once the car is off and the thing die in 6 months. my other friend had one in his Z for 4 months and it die for no apparent reason. my oem one of 4 years outlasted those optimas.

I'm glad I came to this thread, I'm kinda in need of a new battery and I was going to get an Optima Yellow Top. Now I will not.

Are there any good lightweight batteries that would suit a 00 Civic EX?
