I wonder if you could just take the front passenger side seat belt and just bring it across and buckle it to the driver side?

Pulling the seatbelt plug under the seat will disable the airbag. We unplug them at work (lifeguard at the beach) and it kills are airbag.

In my province if you frequently leave your vehical - when you are in your work area you can not wear your seatbelt. It just happens that my work vehical has company logos on it. The police know that our crews vehicals make a lot of stops.

But like I said before, his car, his life. If he wants to live that way - go to town.

You just have to reach under the seat and pull the plug.

Look around, its not hard to find.

Personally, though, I'm gonna have to agree with those that say its a bad idea. I've known too many people that have died or almost died because of not wearing a seat belt. I've also known people that have only lived because they were wearing a seat belt. Like my parents.

It's there to protect you, and it serves a practical purpose of keeping you in place while you drive. No sliding around when I make crazy turns for me...

DO NOT PULL THE PLUG UNDER THE SEAT--

it disables the airbag and if you forget to put it back together and then sellt he car, i would not like to imagine the results.

OK while I don't agree with his decision to pull the cord, I'm pretty sure it doesn't do anything to the airbag. It's just a two lead wire to the seatbelt catch to a switch, which is open when the seatbelt is plugged in. If anything, it's going to think he has his seatbelt plugged in constantly.

Pull it and see what happens, we unplugged ours at work (Ford Rangers, 05 Nissan Frontier) and the airbag light comes on... the SRS system is all connected together, and guess what.. seatbelts and airbags are a part of the SRS system.

in some cars there is a weight sensor in there somewhere to detect if a person is in the seat...
