Last night, I got in the car, and everything seemed normal when I turned the key to 'on", except that the car beeped 6 times. Started fine, lamps turned on and then off as expected. But I swear I don't remember the thing beeping 6 times.

Couldn't google anything useful, and the manual doesn't say anything (or at least I couldn't find anything).

I am about to check the factory alarm codes, but I was under the impression that the factory alarm wouldn't go off unless there was a break-in, and everything looks ok. And, of course, it might have nothing to do with the alarm...

Any ideas?

how many times does it normaly beep? does it still beep 6? maybe you just fidgeted the key so it went to "on" twice.

 

Are your sure it wasnt from your door being open or not having your seat belt on? Or even headlights?

Sometimes, my civic does that after i first insert the key or start ignition.

 

Yep, it's exactly 6 times, and normally no beeps.

i think it IS the seatbelt. I've tried the ignition without the seat belt on, and get the same 6-beep sequence. that, after annoying neighbors with the alarm system, trying to figure out if the alarm was the culprit. of course, i can't repeat the problem any more. but, if it's just the seat belt sensor, then there's no real problem, i guess. could have been much worse

could be normal. whenever i start up mine it's beeps six times, but that's just your computer checking safety systems like airbags..abs...etc. i don't think six times is unheard of. might be more of a concern if it didn't stop beeping or some of the system lights came on.

 

Just to 'chime' in...If anyone gets a definite answer on this please let me know. My '97 Accord does this too when I turn the ignition to the "on" position. It's a weird beep, different from door chime/headlights and different from actually cranking the starter then returning to "on" position. No CEL either. ...Sorry for the pun.
