My friend said I should use 89 instead of 87.

higher octane burns slower... in N/A applications it's used to burn at optimal timing with heavily advance ignition and cam timing, on boosted applications it's used to prevent detonation. If you want a cleaner engine, just run injector cleaner in the fuel tank. your car is an '05, that car is just too new to have a dirty fuel system, unless some kid pissed in the tank. lol

As everyone else said it's not necessary unless you like throwing away money. You would only need higher octane if you are running:
1) higher compression engine like the 99-00 Honda Civic Si
2) turbo
3) supercharger
4) nitrous
5) advanced timing

i say they're all wrong, the better the gas the better the burn. 87 octane will cause your valves to rattle over time exspecially if you drive your car everyday, which is more than likely. 93 octane is the way to go, ive never had a problem on spark plugs or wires fouling out due to higher octane. plus your car will run smoother a lot long, thus better gas mileage. take from someonje who knows from experience.
