as far as ZC motors go...they do not have VTEC.

unless you are referring to the D16Z. generally SOHC VTEC engagement is not as loud as the DOHC VTEC.

i heard the louder it is and the harder it kicks in , you are not using all available power. if you can't feel it kick in you are getting all the power out of it . But i think you have to have it tuned 1st . not sure anyone want to elaborate on my comment?

Well for sure a ZC motor does not have VTEC valvetrain but it is a DOHC motor. Now I run a D16Z6 SOHC motor as a daily driver and its got some miles on it for sure, and I can feel it and hear it, it is a bit more quiet though.

the ZC came in two forms. the more common DOHC motor found in the ZC CRX (and very similar to the first gen Integra with the D16A (DOHC)) and the SOHC ZC very similar to the D16Z w/o VTEC.

As far as hearing and feeling, it is very minimal.

I will agree with this. I don't know about the noise of it, but if you are feeling vtec engaging, your vtec engagement isn't at the optimum area of the powerband. A smoother torque curve when vtec engages is ideal for the best powerband and higher peak hp/torque, but it doesn't make the car as fun to drive. Many tuners will make vtec engage a few hundred rpms later than would be optimal just to make it more fun for the customer to drive.
