IMHO the D15B is a dumb swap. Just get a D16Z6 from a local yard. It won't be fast regardless.

I'd get a B18B over a B16A2 personally.

It is a dumb swap, and you would be much better off just getting a Z6.

I would choose any B18 over the A2 also..my opinion.

Personally I'd never go with a Z6 unless I had the funds to machine it, build it, and turbo it. I forgot who on here has a 280whp single cam, but that's pretty bitchen ya know?

I like my B16 for the high rpm range, awesome rod/stroke ratio, and the YS1 tranny. Stock for stock the b16 is better, turbo for turbo, the b16 is better. It all comes down to funds and goals.

If I could do it all over though. But the 1st time I've ever worked on my car was putting my motor in. I didn't know 1/100th of what I know today. I would have gotten a B18B because they cost about as much as a Z6, make like 147hp? and like 127ft/lbs of torque. They can also handle boost like a mother.
280whp on a single is not at all hard to accomplish. I personally have a friend pushing 382whp on one, and I have another pushing well over 400whp, both w/ good torque numbers (cant think off the top of my head) Yes, it costs money to do, and you just as easily build up a B16 to do the same thing. However, how many more B16's do you see built over a Single Cam?...A lot more, and still suck with torque. I also dont know where you came across that number of 170hp for a B16a, but that looks more like the B16B out of the CTR. Oh well, im not starting a battle over better motors....Its all personal preference, do some research, and figure which one you want more.

If you have money to blow while still being responsible it isn't hard to get nice gains out of any motor. But not everyone can afford a new bottom end, machining, sleeving, head components, and a beefy turbo system.

All I told him was that the z6 is weak stock, and if he wanted to get some power out of it, he'd be spending more than a b16 swap. He never said he wanted to build anything, he just wanted to have fun with it.

^^^bingo. I never even consider a a2 motor for the sake of it being obd2 and having to convert back to obd1 to tune.

If I were you, I would get the hatchie, and spend your money on a JDM B18C or USDM B18c1. Excellent torque numbers and good whp out of the factory, and well worth it IMHO. good luck w/ whatever you choose.

EDIT: All three motors love boost, but the B18 is GREAT for both NA or FI.
b16a romps all over the d15b in every area...not to mention that the b16a has way more potential.

if anything though I would get the b18b over either choices.

Serriously, I wish I knew then what I know now. I would have done it all over with a b18b, and had 1k$ left for a turbo. instead of this bullshit waiting.

the b16a is a great motor for all applications although it's not the best. i love mine but if i could trade it i would have gone b18c but thats just me. don't get a d15 it's a huge waste of money. all in all i say go b18 c or b both are great motors.

you might want to do some research on that cause the jdm b16a comes with 170 hp.
