Default SRS light blinks when pulling CEL codes

When I jump the little connections to check my CEL code, instead of the CEL light blinking, the SRS light blinks non-stop. It just flashes on and off. I tried multiple times and each time, the SRS light blinks instead of the CEL.

This is a 95 Honda Civic EX
The connector I am jumping is blue with a green boot.
On the same wire loom is another connector with three contacts and is encased in some foam tape. I'm pretty certain I am jumping the right connector.

Anyone know how I can check my codes?

I think the wires you're jumping are for setting the timing. It's been awhile since I've messed with it though so theres a good chance I'm wrong.

Does the CEL light stay on when you're jumping the connector? Usually it will go off, but with the connector jumped, it will stay lit. If you've got codes stored, then the MIL will start flashing to let you know what code it is. If there is a problem with the SRS, that light will flash too. My SRS light is on all the time, and when I jump that connector to check a CEL, the SRS light flashes too.

Its the same jumper to check CEL and set the timing. The connector you should be jumping is a little one that isn't connected to anything, but is generally tucked into a protector. Its up by the computer, and there are only two wires running into the connector.

I don't have any SRS problems that would cause the light, unless I need to be buckled in to check the codes. The CEL just stays solid.

That would kinda explain something today. I went to start the car with the jumper in place and the time was so advance that i could hear it backfiring out of the intake. I thought it was my chip skewing the memory.

Did your CEL come on at all to warrant you to want to check the codes? If the CEL came on (and you haven't reset your computer), then the CEL should blink at you when you jump that connector.

If the SRS light is on when you're driving, and you jump that connector, then the SRS light will flash at you just like the CEL would.

Yeah, yeah, you definitely want to make sure to remove that connector BEFORE actually going anywhere. You would run the car with that connector in there to set the base timing, but that's about it...

My srs light is always off while driving, but when I jump my CEL connector the srs light blinks. I figured it was normal.

Well the two wire connector for flashing out the CEL is also how you read the SRS dtc's. If it flasshes long and short flashes than there is a code stored in the unit that may have been fixed at one time or another and the light is now out but the code is still there.
