Fast Idle Problem

I had this before. A throttle didn't fully close on its way back to closed position. Try this. When engine doesn't come to normal idle speed, open a hood and manually force a throttle to fully closed position.
In my case, a throttle spring wasn't installed right.

If you're talking about where the cable attaches, It's not stuck.

But check this out.... When it's reving really fast and I'm at a stop light, I push the clutch, shift to 4th and release the clutch just enough to load the engine... the Idle will pull down until I push the clutch in and then the Idle speed will remain at that level until I gas it again. ?

I won't have time to look for a vacume leak until after the weekend. But that is still on my mind.

I will bet money it's the spark plugs.

My car did the EXACT same thing when i had some Iridium plugs in it. Couldn't figure it out for about 3 months, till one day the car started running rough and i took it to a dealership. The spark plugs were causing it, and the next day i put in a set of NGK's and the problem was gone.


Put a new set of NGK's in there and make sure they are gapped correctly.

the NGK's in there have 100 miles on them gapped at .043

I hope to get to it on monday. I have a engine light on that I need to check on, and I need to adjust the timing. I have an ancient timing light, So I hope I can rig it to work. I doubt it would be the plugs or wires. The dizzy and wires were from my old engine that ran good (just tired, very tired). Plugs were new when I put the motor in 350 miles ago.

wait, you have a CEL?
CEL puts the car in limp mode, hence the high idle. check that. :slap:

I just went out (into the freakin' cold) and jumped the wires and checked the code...It showed a 41. Oxygen Sensor Heater. I'll do the checking with the Ohm meter in the morning. I'll also check the one on the old motor. I'll probably have to go buy a socket to swap them. I sure hope the old one is still good. The O2 sensors for the VX D15Z1 are like $300+ !!!

Is there any way to switch to a cheaper O2 sensor? Mine is the 5 wire.

i don't know. i guess the iridiums required too much ohms? it would do that exact thing. idle high when i came to a stop, then i would release the clutch a bit, and idle would return to normal.

it did that for about a month, and then the car started stalling. i would give it gas and it would just sputter. i took it to honda, they said the spark plugs were causing the problems, next day i put in some ngk's, and the problem never returned. :happysad:
