Default Shift knob question.

Hey guys I'm just wondering why you think shift knobs are always aluminum. I was thinking about a brass, stainless steel, or maybe even wood shift knob but I never see anythign like that. Is there a reason? Or is it just the hip thing to do?

aluminum is cheap, easy to machine, and fairly resistant to corrosion. I have seen wood/brass knobs on old cars. And I have a Ti knob on my 78 wheel horse, aawww yeah

The Greddy weighted ball shifter is all titanium. And yea, its 50-60$. The stuff does get expensive.

I drilled a hole in a golf ball and have had it on there for 7 years. It's light weight, cheap, looks cool/different, lowers the overall length of the shifter because it sits so low, fits perfect in your hand, and has never moved at all. Just drill a hole in one with a core that's not a wound ball. Make sure the hole is not to big so that the threads will grip it tight. DO IT!

OR

If you want to do something crazy... cast a shifter out of aluminum yourself! In any shape you can make! check this shit out...

Both the golf ball and the backyard cating is pretty cool. I work at a casting foundry though, it's slightly more sophisticated...slightly.

Default Exotic shift knobs

some beer taps make good shift knobs, if you find a nice one.... with a ball ontop, like a bells oberon tap.... but personally, i do prefer the wood or the older hard plastic shift knobs.... your gonna call me crazy but ive got a shift knob off a 1978 ferrari in my honda, it looks classy, feels great... and has some nostalga to it.... im a ferrari nut, what i can i say....

I'm a machinist myself. Which explains why I have a titanium knob on my mower.
