-= Rebuilding my D16Y8 - Best place to buy parts? =-
I have to rebuild my motor, and I'm wondering the best place to buy parts.
If I was doing one of my small blocks I would goto Summit Racing or Jegs. Is that gonna be the best place to go?
I have yet to tear into it to see just what went wrong, but I'm gonna go on some type of bearing failure. I don't think I broke a rod or anything, and the noise seems to be loud to be valve train related.
Anyways, I know I at least need a Gasket Set, and a bearing set. I think I might need to buy a rod, depending on how hot I got it. and I'm hoping worse case I might need a crank too.
I have heard that people don't rebuild these motors because the cylinder walls are too thin. I dont plan on replacing the pistons, so this shouldnt be a problem.
Are there any other problems in rebuilding these motors? It's a 97 with 85K miles, would I be better off buying a used motor?
Any info on the best places to buy gasket sets, bearing sets, rods, and a crank would be very helpful!
Thanks
Bill

Where are you getting prices for the gasket/bearing sets? I can't even find them online anywhere!

I would certainly buy a used block...hell, you could probably find an entire d16y8 swap for under $500. A short block shoudl only cost about $150. Check out thepartstrader.com
