Default Partially Blown Headgasket, What to do?

So I just found out my friend's 98 Civic Ex has a partially blown headgasket. This finally explains why all this time the car has been randomly overheating. So, what to do? Besides the obvious of replacing the headgasket, I was told the head would be sent out to be machined and checked for cracks and the valves checked. The engine has a lil over 90g on the clock.
Engine transplant is too costly cuz I was thinking about swapping in a auto LS engine, but there are no funds unless someone knows the cost for that.

So if we send the head out to get machined, is it worth it to do anything else to the head while it's out? And the block while it's apart? The car has Fake J's intake, DC Header, Random Tech Cat, KTeller 2.25 Mild Steel Cat-back and custom Trust Muffler.

Recommendations are welcomed. TIA.

honestly.. if u look at the head.. u'll be able to see if there are problems.. if it looks like the spot is abused then send it out to be checked.. if not.. change the head gasket & put it back together!

Just replace it, have the head resurfaced and put it back together.

We were quoted 1800-2g's for the job, right now I'm trying to find a new head or one that's already resurfaced.

Thats waaaaaay too much money for that. The mechanic that replaced my headgasket, and milled/resurfaced my head charged me around 250 for the job

You can get a head resurfaced, fully built with race valves, springs, cam, etc for less than that.

Check out this site for more info:

So you're saying that I should just remove the head myself and send it out to DH-Racing to have a competition machine and P&P job? The process also takes care of what would normally be done if you were machining a head?

Just made an appointment with http://www.RPMNYC.com to get the head job done. We'll see how it goes.

$800 for those that might inquire.
