Default Will this solve radio swap issue?

or do I need an adapter...so what if i change the head unit I lose the dome light? I was told I have to leave the og radio in or get an adapter or it wont work...what is the real issue and how can I install a new solid head unit? I found a bunch of nice small one with remote and mp3 ability for $120-$150

just keep the stock radio powered and the green plug connected to it
simple as that
They sell them at best buy, circuit city, wherever
