Default 02 Civic Trunk Problem

I just replaced my rear speakers, and they were too deep. I had to take out the cross bars in the trunk, which help pull the trunk door up when you unlock it. The speakers work great, but the trunk is now a pain in the ass. How can I fix this?

you can put something between the speaker and the rear deck to raise the speaker up, but this might cause problems when you put the plastic peice over them. Another thing you can do is cut the holes onto the plastic peice and flush mount them, that might give you some room.

just some ideas.

I considered raising them, but this would cause the rear panel to be blocked, and thus the other panels to not fit together properly.

Would flush mounting to the plastic cause audible vibrations? The speakers put out some decent bass.

Are there any other ways to get the trunk to work properly?

the trunk needs those bars. I've considered removing them for sub clearence, but looking at how they work, they're pretty nessisary.

you could try a custom install into the rear door panels. But I assume they're 6x9s, so that might be too big.

if you do mount them on the top of the rear deck plastic, put some foam or sponge material between the metal and the plastic to create support, then it shouldn't vibrate bad.

Yeah I was affraid if that...they are pretty intricate, yet simple little things.

The first time I realized what they were I was amazed...I was even more amazed when I felt how heavy the trunk is without them.

I am finally finding time to work on this. I am going to see how much I have to raise the speakers and try to do that...but we'll see how that works.

Is there any type of hydraulic I could install to raise the trunk lid? Seems like this should be an option...all mini vans and SUV's rears are raised with hydraulics...

actually, there's a couple company's that make hydrolic arms. They sell them for the hood, but they're universal, so it shouldn't make much of a difference.

I think Vision and Tein are the two.... check www.modacar.com or www.optauto.com

I'm sure one of those two sites sells them

EDIT:

here's a link to the tein hood dampners
http://www.optauto.com/index.htm?sto...TEIN-BHD01-H00

it shouldn't be much more different for the trunk....
