Missing? What could be wrong?
Ok, I have a 94 EX with D16Z6, 130k.
Mods: MSD Blaster II external coil, with MSD power cap and rotor, Accel 8.5 thundersport wires, NASCAR NGK V- plugs set at .044, and Short ram air intake.
I did the coil swap myself, and the car had no problems untill a few days ago, it misses randomly, and if its in a high rpm (1000 or higher) it does not miss as often, and if I am driving, and put it in 1st, and take off (normal driving), then it does not miss, it seems like if there is a load on the motor, then it does not miss, but if there is no load, and it idles around 350-500 rpm it misses randomly, not enough to kill the motor, just enough to sound like shit. My exhaust has not color to it, and smells a little gassy. Also, when I wired the MSD Coil, I took the + and - leads off of the internal coil (removed the internal coil) and ran them to the external coil. But when I got a new MSD cap, the diagram shows me taping into the wires from outside the distributor, and I was not sure if that would work correctly, since, there is a small (resistor type box) that one of the wires come off of, and I dont want to bypass somthing and end up frying anything... Can I bypass this box, or remove it if I am using an external coil? Also the small resistor type box says (Hytachi), but when I order a cap I use a Tek cap? I am almost positive its not the coil, but I am not 100% sure its correct.
(just recently replaced plugs, wires, cap, rotor, and coil)
Plugs are set at .044.
I dont burn any oil, and the plugs look normal.
My next rout is fuel, I am not sure how everyone elses car starts up, but when I have a full tank of gas, my car seems to turn over and start much quicker then if I have 1/4 or less, it seems to crank over one or 2 more times, when I am low on fuel, could this be a fuel pump problem?
Also I am going to check my timing today, and I will see if that helps anything. What is the timing suposed to be set at?
I am going to check my valve lash as a last resort. (what are my Intake and Exhaust valves suposed to be set at im MM's (.00?what?)
And I am positive I have good grounds, just recently replaced grounds, and I also have a brand new battery, and my charging system has never given me any problems.
Other then all of that, is there anything else I should check for?

Start the motor. Then when it starts missing start pulling off plug wires. If it boggs down the motor then put that wire back on. Keep going till you get to one that dont effect the idel dont change when its unpluged. That cylinder isnt firing. Put a new plug in the cylinder that is not firing. Then also put a plug wire that you know is good. Iv had plugs that would just stop firing for some reason.
It could also be a cloged injector.
Does the motor smoke when it misses? I had a missing problem and it only smoked when it missed. I tried different plugs and wires and it ended up being the head gasket was leaking just a little bit. The little that it was leaking it burnt and then smoked. the antifrez never got into the oil.

Umm, its not a constant miss, so the pulling the plug wire method is not an option, its a random miss. I did not think about a cloged injector, I have not replaced the fuel filter since I got the car, (about one year ago), how much is a new fuel filter?
Also, the oil is new, and the car does not smoke at all.
I also have a flowmaster muffler on it, if that can make a difference?
How can lower resistance plug wires, and a higher output coil be the problem? If anything I would think that it would increase performance, not cause lower perfomance... I am beguining to think it might be a injector, how do I know for sure? Is there a way I can clean the injector if it is cloged? I know I have taken one apart befor (not on this car) but, I know that there is a small screen inside of them that catches particals that are not traped by the fuel filter. Can this be cleaned?

wild thought, u sure all your plugs are connected entirely on the distributor? ive had encounters where they seemed as if they were in but when u give then an extra push they'd click in further. just a thought, sometimes its the little things.
Im pretty sure honda fuel filters are around 12 bucks. As for cleaning injectors, put some fuel injector cleaner into ur gas tank. to check if an injector isnt firing, get a stethoscope and listen to each injector individually, working ones make a tick each time everytime.

I fixed the problem, It was an injector, I took my fuel rail off to check the injectors, and my entire Intake manifold has a film inside of it, I cleaned the injectors, and put them back in, replaced the fuel filter and it runs like a champ.
I couldnt figure out what was up with this nasty junk im my intake, it went from my TB, all the way to the valves (lucky it didnt get so gummd up it burnt a valve....) I figured it out tho, my modifyd stock intake tube had a small crack in it below where it connects the the TB, and it was just suckin in dirty air, so I just took my filter and put it on my TB, so now im only running a filter (much louder) and I can feel alot more power at the low RPM's but much less at the top end... So I am gonna save for a AEM cold air.
P.S. I got a new intake mani. gasket, and some carb cleaner, and im gonna pull it off and clean it. Does anyone know where I can get a bare, stock intake manifold for a D16Z6 for about 75.00 shiped? I want one so I can play with it with my dremmel tool I got for christmas..... That way if I mess it up I still got one that works.....
Thanks for all of the info, I would have never checked the injectors if somone didnt say anything. Thanx alot!

here is one on.....3bay.... i know...ebay link, when they take it down, IM me and i can send it to you
Im having a similar problem, at low rpm my car idles like it wants to die. its not REALLY bad, just annoying. I did the exact same MSD setup.

Well, mine is fine now that I cleaned the injectors with a rag and some alcohol, I also added some injector cleaner, and used Fuel injection Intake/TB cleaner, it was a little tricky to use (spray in TB with butterfly open while car is running) it makes the car want to stall out because there is no oxygen while spraying it in. I took a cotton swab, and opend the butterfly, and ran it in and out of the intake mani. rubbing it along the side, and it came out greasy, oily, and black, and then I used the cleaner, and did the same thing again, and it came out with a tad bit of blackish dust, but I would say its clean. So if I were you and you are having the same problems, I would replace the fuel filter, and manualy clean the injectors, just be careful not to damage the injector while cleaning them, they are very sensitive.
P.S. I got the link, thanks this helps alot!
