Ignition Switch Problems
I know there is another post like this but there was no resolution to the problem. I was hoping the additional information might help.
About eight months ago I purchased a 1994 Honda Civic EX Coupe, with an AT. Today I had a problem when I tried to start it. The car turns over, fires up and runs, and then turns off when the key returns to the “run” position.
I also have an auto starter on the car. It will start the car and it stays running just fine. When I put the key in the ignition, and press the brake to disengage the auto starter, the car shuts off. It is almost as if the ignition switch is not registering in the “run” position. However, when I put the key in and turn it to the “run” position, all the dash lights and radio come on (every time).
I’ve been having other electrical problems for a long time. Whenever I’m using a lot of the car’s features (anti-lock, rear defrost, blinker, break lights…) it always freaks out and shuts off the anti-locks, the clock flickers, and the radio looses all of its pre-sets. This problem is intermittent and is never acting up when I have someone look at the car.
New Interstate battery about five months ago, no fuses blown, alarm power disengaged, alarm inspected and new relays installed. None of which worked. Alarm people say it is the ignition switch contacts that have worn out.
Any ideas? Anyone replace their ignition switch?

*update*
I ended up buying a whole ignition switch and harness from Ebay ($75). This solved all of my electrical problems. I only replaced the harness (white plastic cap on the ignition switch where all the wires originate) because the switch itself appeared to be very difficult to remove.
I had to have my airbag codes cleared ($85) because I removed the airbag and steering wheel for better access. I disconnected may of the airbag connections but one may be able to do this without disturbing the airbag system.
Let me know if this helps and sorry for the delay.
