umop-apisdn is right.
im pulling a b20z2 from a buddy of mines 99 hatch. he is also running a 5.5psi greddy kit.
just to replace it with a no brainer h22a with lsd

oh yeah, and a 75 shot zex kit!
ya gotta have some kind of boost!

guess i will have to use the b20z2 for my next hybrid motor, now where did i put that extra b16 head?

I wanted to know this same question, h22 or B16..... Both about the same price, so I made a pro's and Con's list on here a while back, and the H22 had alot of con's, and the B16 had alot of pro's.

But its all about the $$$/Time, and what you want in the end.

If you go with the H22, say bye bye to power steering, that is the con that made me not want the H22.

I had a 92 prelude, with the h23 (which H22A's are not the biggest displacement engine you can put in a Civic), anyways, I had that for a year, and I loved it.

Drive a car with the B16 or 18 swap, and then the H22 swap, and see how you like them. Thats what it came down to with me. I ended up wanting the B16 more then the B18 or H22, because I like to go fast around thoes tight corners, and I want to build a bad ass B16, not just slap in some high HP stocker and call it good.

I get more joy out of working on my car, and if I put the H22 in it, I would just call it good.

You need to set a Goal for your HP. And do whatever it takes to get to it.

My goal is 200hp in my 94 EX Coupe. And I know a non boosted non Nitros B16 is possible of that with a little work.

(My opinion) is get the B16 or 18, whatever u want, and mod that untill you either blow it up, love it so much you keep it, or sell it and do it all over again. After all, isnt that what its all about?

But, first thing is first. Whats ur suspension lookin like?

Wow, I forgot how warm the Civic forum was. I've been in the basement (the forum - not under a house) and even when you're right, someone else thinks you're wrong based on their own opinion. Here, when you're right, you're right. I think I will be posting here more often. The basement is 'tard city.

More true words have never been spoken. IMO the H22A civic swap is the most underrated swap. NO engine in the honda line up hits VTEC as hard as the H22(except the J32 in the NSX or maybe the F20C in the S2000). I driven or ridden in every possible honda swaped car(type r swaped civics & integras, B16, b18, LS/vtec, h22a, and turbo versions of all the above). The fastest all motor was a crx w/h22a(cant remember times but it was REALLY FAST). The fastest turbo was a civic hatch w/h22a turbo running 7.12s in the 8th w/314whp @ 6psi. If you dont believe i will post the dyno sheets(i already posted them once). The guy with the hatch has since fully built the h22a and is now putting down almost 500whp.

H22A all the way. I have one in my 90 4dr accord and i spank 4.6 mustangs all day long on the street(CAI/H/CBE/pullys/JUN reprogramed ecu). I cant ever get traction at the track but my best 1/4 time was a 14.73@93mph. Picture the same engine in a car almost 1000lbs lighter and you have an h22a civic.

Displacement doesnt always = better. I have raced plenty of h23a prelude's and to tell you the truth from at least a punch the races have always been pretty even.... right up until i hit vtec, then the h23 is no match for the h22. The h22a also responds to mods better than an h23 or b series.

A vtec b series if kept naturaly asperated, below 2L, and ran on pump gas is virtualy incabable of 300hp. My proof... The December 2004 issue of Import Tuner. Import Tuner put 4 engine builders up against each other(R&D Dyno, Dynamic Autosports, JG Engine Dynamics, and Skunk2). Those were the limitations, and r&d dyno posted the bigest #s with 283.2 CRANK hp and 177.4flbs of CRANK torque. So ineffect the BONE STOCK h22a has almost as much hp and torque as a fully built b series. With just bolt ons the H22a would be right up there with them.

That's the problem, these motors don't run stock on pump gas.

I've driven Civic's with all the motor's listed. Everything Asiandoood mentioned is pretty much right on. But as far as the H22, although the power is really nice (Tq) I think this motor should only go on Lude's & Accords. It is not designed to fit properly in a Civic.

The best bang for the buck swap is B18B I'd say, as you would also have potential to upgrade to a VTEC head much later down the line if money is an issue now.

I'd go with the b18b around 600 bucks or so, then u can buy a b series vtec head and push about 20-30 more hp outta the b18b and u'll have vtec ie. LsVtec. I'm lookin into that setup, I can get a b18 for 300 bucks and the b16 head for free! When u build it up, just upgrade all of ur internals and bottom end so u will be safe and comfortable runnin 15psi or more racing and tone it down when ur driving normal! Eagle crank, crower cams and pistons, valve springs, ect.. I've heard of upgrading the retainers can cause problems but not too sure. Ls vtec is a very cheap motor, you'll have more power then a b16a swap and most likely keep up with a stock gsr if u were to do a cold air intake and full exhaust. Just do lots of research and call a lot of shops for prices on the install. Goodluck with whatever u plan on doing.

When i listed these i was refering to daily driven street cars. They run on pump gas and have full working interiors(i/e power steering, ac, radio w/amp and subs. ect.)
