Default Umm...oops? Broken distributor

I'm probably going to find out I'm an idiot for this, but how could this have happened with a new distributor? (B16a if it makes any difference.) Ok ok, I didn't check if I had it 180 degrees off, I figured if it was I could just pull it off, rotate it and try again. The first time I tried to start the car after putting the distributor in I heard a *clunk* Pulled it off and found this

What happened?

btw, F*#$*@((*#)_()#(!!! HONDA distributors!!! man I hate them.

lol.. aparently, it wasn't on right, coz theres no way that would happen normaly.. you can see where the stress point was that it broke.. you probably had it on 180 degrees wrong.. it will only sit flush one way!

Flush? It bolted in fine and appeared to seal completely against the head...how else could I have been able to tell if I had the whatchamacallit turned 180 degrees off?

push it on both ways before you determine which way you are going to bolt it down. You will see what i mean. The difference will be noticable, but if you did it wrong the first way & didn't check the other way, you may not have noticed that you did it wrong because it does almost fit. If you've done them before then the experience would tell you, but this is aparant.

like i sais tho. line it up both ways before you bolt it & you will see what i mean. Best of luck

I've replaced 5-6 honda distributors before, so I have done it a few times. This is the first time something like this has happened. I don't recall seeing that lining it up incorrectly would lead to results like this, would it?

I also have done this many times and can't see how that could happen. I always just line it up the same way I took it off.

Default Let me restate the question (again)

If I put it on backwards, would it snap off the ends like this? Has anyone ever heard of this happening? Ever seen this this happen?

As to why I wasn't sure which way to put it back on...I've had the F#@#@# distributor off for 2 weeks trying to find a replacement. I finally used a B18c distributor from O'Reilly's that people said would work (however, the original cap didn't fit so I had to use a B18 distributor cap as well.)

I don't see how it could snap. Just to check I ran out to the garage and grabbed a spare I had from a d series and it turns all teh way around. I don't get it.

What's up with the Turbonator ad below. It kind of pisses me off to scammers like this selling to my fellow board members.

Did you check to see if the dizzy would spin all the way around befor you installed it? I always check new and reman stuff, especialy dizzy's, the place I get them from sprays a coating of a clearcoat type of stuff in them, to keep them from corodeing, and somtimes it can lock up the vacuum advance, or make it so the thing dont want to spin freely, I dont know how you installed it, so cant say you did it wrong? Just bad luck man.... Good luck with finding another one.. This time you might want to have somone else install it, so when they crank it over they pay you instead of you paying them... lol....

Turbonator ad? Whatever man, dont see nothin?
