Default radio code

How can I find out if the radio in my '98 Civic has a code in it before I disconnect the battery?

You'll have to take your radio out, get the code from the back of it, and then call Honda to have them look it up for you... if you want, you can have someone hold a screwdriver in contact with the battery where you disconnect it until you're ready to reconnect it again. It worked for me... kept all my settings the same.

The honda dealership might be picky about just giving you the code over the phone. I went there in person with the radio in hand and they made me bring them out to the car and show them it with a registration.

Do you have the factory book that camewith the car? The code may me written down in that

I do have the factory owners manual. I was assuming the radio didnt have a code being it is just an AM/FM radio and doesnt say anything on it about it being a security radio.

I find it best not to worry about a problem untill you actually have one. It sounds to me like you are needing to take your radio out for something anyways. so why not just take it out and if when you put it back in it asks for a code then deal with it then. My wife does the same thing. Gets all worked up over something that might happen instead of just dealing with what does happen. Drives me crazy.

I dont need to take the radio out. I need to change the battery in the car and was thinking that if I need a code for the radio I should try and get it before I actually need it.
