Default Fuel Pump Cutoff Switch

Hey im installing one of the little security switches that westcoast put in his online resources sticky... http://www.teamdelsolwa.com/howto/fuelcutoff.htm I was wondering if the fuel pump is the best thing for the button to cut off? What other possibilities are there for the button to turn off? Also, where is the fuel pump wire located on a '97 civic ex, cuz ive been lookin for a while and cant find it. Thanks for any replies.

fuel pump is one of the best places to have the switch because with out fuel the car wont run, the starter is another option for a switch so I have heard and there is also a few more but cant remember at the moment.

The starter is eh... cause the car can still be push started even with the starter cutoff switch in the off position. Another possibility for a cutoff is if you have an external coil. You can turn your coil off and that will not allow the car to start at all.

One thing to be aware of when putting a switch inline is that switches have max amperage attributes so be sure that you are not creating a power bottleneck with a switch that will not allow enough power to flow to the device you are turning on and off.

In step #2, it says: Remove the back center panel (just pull off) and big storage bin piece (screws). What are they referring to? Would this be the same for a '97 Civic? Thanks.

I just scanned the DIY quickly. I'm assuming you are trying to find the fuel pump? If so, it is under the back seat in the 97 Civic.

I agree. That way the switch won't hinder the device and you won't have to reroute a bunch of wire.

you could also possibly rerun the sensor for the clutch that wont allow it to start without clutch, so that it needs clutch+switch....

I heard of someone running a cutoff switch on starter, fuel pump, and the clutch, pretty cool..alot of work id imagine though.
