i think even techincally with an auto they want you to let off before the new gear, and actually flooring it isnt always the fastest way up.

Whenever I'm racing instead of just stomping my foot on the gas pedal(flooring it), I floor it but when I feel like its going to change gears I let off for a second and floor it again. I dunno...I feel like it accelerates much much faster than when I just floor it and dont do anything. Becuase when im just flooring it, it feels sluggish and its not accelerating fast enough but whenever i let off the gas and floor it, it kinda kicks in and starts accelerating.. I dunno this might be something stupid, because an automatic is an automatic and it wont ever be fast but im just wondering if anyone else does this or why this feels like its going faster?
Racing on an automatic tranny is the fastest way to give you an excuse to swap your engine and tranny... cause it'll break. Trust me on that one, I know. It's known that Honda auto-trannies are the worst, and racing on them really accelerates that process of wear. But other than that, I think I know what you're talking about. The car downshifts 1-2 gears when you floor it, I would think, theoretically when you let off, it'll bump up to the next gear, so you are going up gears. But my advice is, STOP beating the crap out of your auto-tranny, unless you really want to spend $ to fix it or swap it.

he isnt beating the crap out of it. i know what he is talking about. its not like he is shifting from d4 to d3 or anything. he is just letting off the gas some. i mean i can hear my car struggling to change gears sometimes so i let off the gas a little and it goes into gear alot easier.....

Yeah honda auto trannies suck. I can start to feel mine slipping a little bit. Car @ 59k miles. I've had it (beat on it) for the last 13k miles. Flushed the tranny fluid about 100 miles ago. Still a little weird. I think the inevitable is coming Oh well that just means either I go auto -> 5sp, or auto -> 5sp + b16

this is kinda weird how so many people do it... i never heard of any1 else doing it, i just do it... if i'm accelerating hard in my autofaggot, i let off right before it shifts, then gas it to change the gear... kinda weird. if my tranny dies, its a good reason to swap hehe then my dad actually might approve. hehehehehe

i don't think its bad for you to switch down to d3 anyways when you need the extra oomph. of course my car really doesn't have oomph but if i wanna pass someone i stick it in d3... and when i'm braking i switch it down to d3 to 'engine brake'...

i think all hondas are like this... that you can throw it in d3 without hitting the button.... i stuck it in reverse one while going kinda fast (accident) and that was bad....

back on topic. i think it just makes you THINK you're going faster... not sure. never timed. but when i just gun it, it seems to hang at the high RPMS a little longer before switching... :dunno:

i personaly think you should do it all the time.. in fact it is much better on the car if you manualy shift the auto.. think about how much faster you will be than us manual guys.. we have to push in a clutch where you can just wack a stick...i say start in nuetral rev to almost the redline then slam it into D then manualy shift.... and before you run set the tire pressure at like 5psi.. so they hook good... this method should easily get you into the low 12's with a bone stock 94 lx
