header caused rod snappage says mechanic
So the mechanic who's doing the labor for replacing my engine is selling this load of BS to my father. He doesn't even mention it to me on the phone, only my father. So if you missed my thread be4 a rod snapped and punched a hole in my block. The mechanic keeps telling my pops that Honda engines aren't built for this type of stress. Header, CAI, Exhaust system. The engine can't handle it according to him. Someone correct me if I'm wrong but if all a car has is I/H/E then the internals shouldn't have to be upgraded. I still don't believe there is even a header on the blown engine. If there is the company should be closed down. The header is completely covered in rust and aftermarket parts usually stand up to weather a little better than that. In addition, there was no exhaust system (still isn't) or CAI (I put one on) when I purchased my car. So why the header? My car is an automatic as well, so who would put ONLY a header on the car? I doubt anyone was racing the D15B7 engine with AT. Just a little venting about the mechanic who's trying to squeeze more cash out of my fam for the swap. Said it would cost an extra $100 to take the header off the old engine and put it on the one that's getting installed, because he has to buy gaskets and the labor costs.

I know he's full of shit but his labor charges are good and the work is already underway. My father is paying almost all of the fees cause this happened at a very suck ass moment when I was broke and he likes the guy and thinks he does good work. As long as my car runs and the engine is installed correctly I'll be happy. Engine will be coming out in a year anyway for a real swap.

Dude he's charging you $100 to remove a header, the gasket at most costs $15. Labor charges are good? I'd look elsewhere.

Nah, he ain't charging shit to remove the header, I told him not to. It's a POS anyway, more rust than metal and I don't believe it's an aftermarket part either. His fee is $500 labor for the swap, one engine out and one engine in.

If someone is giving BS like that they are most-likely doing BS work.

Well, he says it's aftermarket, I don't think it is. It's entirely covered in rust. I don't think stainless steel or a ceramic coated header would look like that.
