Default Attn: Baltimore Residents - Need Help!

My little sister just moved to Baltimore, MD and is trying to get her car registered. The shop she took her 1993 Civic to is trying to screw her over because they know she's not knowledgeable about cars and can't fix things herself. They basically gave her a bogus list of repairs that need to be fixed before they'll approve her car that totals $1300.

I called the Honda shop here in my town and they said that in 15 years they've never had to replace the parts this guy is listing. The only thing that they thought was a real problem is a cracked CV boot that we already knew about.

Can someone recommend a shop that isn't going to try and screw her over? She actually lives in Cockeysville, but if she can get treated right, would be willing to drive anywhere reasonable.

Thanks in advance for any help.

look for fourth gen hatch, he went round and round with repairs on his hatch before they finally let him register, but he got the same thing, some shops were straight up liars, forcing him to fix unecessary things. It seems like he found a Poloc who was, im his word, "crooked" that took care of him for a few dollars cash.

They didn't break down pricing, they just said that one of her CV boots were cracked, her driver's side brake caliper is leaking fluid, and all her rear suspension bushings are "cracked and need replaced." They said parts and labor would be $1300.

I realize the boot needs repaired, no questions asked. The brake caliper is not leaking, they just made that **** up. (we just replaced both calipers a month ago and over the phone I talked her through checking them herself and she said there is nothing out of the ordinary) I called my local Honda dealership and talked to the technician on duty. He said that in working there for 15 years, he's never seen a car that had to have cracked bushings done. She doesn't race, it's just a commuter to take her on a 20 minute round trip drive to and from work. So it's not like she's putting those bushings through a lot. I wouldn't think they'd need replacing unless they're actually missing!

Mid Atlantic Muffler and Brake. It's on York Rd, kind of near the city. They are extremely honest folks, I've taken 2 vehicles there for inspection and I get other stuff done there, too. They are a MD certified inspection shop. Also one of the guys who works there, is really good with imports too (just a side note).
