Default Y8 vs. Z6?

i have a 94 civic hatch...and i was planning on doing the D16Z6 swap...but i was wondering about the D16Y8....i know their almost identical in performance, but is it much different to install into my EH hatch?....would it be a bolt up just the same?....if anyone has any info plz post...thanks!

Having never done a swap, I'm prob not the smartest on the topic. But I would imagine that the Z6 would be much easy considering its from the same gen civic...:dunno:

Um, dont swap the block if you're gonna do this, all that is different from the d16z6 and d16y8 is the intake manifold, and the head, so just swap those if you are.

you could use your obd 1 harness and it would be a bolton affair or at least that's what I was told

ok....i have a D15B8 in my EH right now....so i might go either route....i was just wondering cause i'm having trouble finding a Z6....and shops round here are being stupid quoting me prices way over what their worth and stuff....it's just a pain...so the wider variety i look i was thinkin the more chance of finding an engine i'll have....also, both the Z6 and Y8 are obd-1...correct?

the y8 is obd2 and the z6 is obd1. so it would be a little different of an affair if you swap the y8 in your 5th gen because of the fact that it is obd2 with the different sensors unless you get the WHOLE car or something and you have everything you need then you can do the swap, only problem is that your car would be obd2 now and you would need an obd2 ecu from a 6th gen EX. the downside to obd2 is that it isnt as tuneable as obd1 thats why you see a lot of people changing to obd1 when they swap engines.

Z6, less hassle. The Y 8 head is better so they say but it's all relative. I test drove a 2004 EX Coupe the other day and that 1.7L felt slower than my EX coupe did when it was stock. I just was not impressed at all. However, I'm also test driving new SI's and I actually like the whole feel of the engine and car.

How much are they quoting you for the Z6?
