Tranny Problem???
Well, here goes. This is my first post on any board, concerning any Honda tech. Since i own/maintain 2 of them, i figured it would be best to finally ask the "experts" for some ideas.
Okay, this one is considering my 93 del Sol Si (yes the roof leaks, but go figure, the trunk does not), stock D16z6 (yeah, yeah, its a peppy little engine that gets enough mileage to keep the wallet happy), and is a manual. I was in the process of flushing the tranny fluid, as it had NEVER been done before (engine oil is not supposed to congeal like that....) and noticed that a seemingly odd fluid coated the boot going towards the shift linkage (stock shifter, hey, IM POOR!!!!!!!). Peaked by my curiosity, as never being one to study Japanese cars, i looked over the entire driveaxel/transmission assy. as well as i could with 2 maglights and a flood lamp. The mystery fluid literally coats the entire boot leading to the rear of the car, but there is no change in my trans fluid after driving hard.
It 'smells' like dirty auto trans fluid, but has the consistancy and color of dirty brake fluid. My clutch needed bled, because my mother (the real owner of the car, but she's getting to flakey about driving a stick) never maintained it. I did this AFTER i swapped the tranny fluid (no, i didnt drive it, either...im by no means an expert, but i was blessed with common sense), so i ruled out a clutch hydraulic failure, as the clutch master cylinder has remained full. I checked for leaks around both the master and slave, and nada...both holding fluid/pressure and all fittings in pristine shape.
Now, i am fearful that my throwout bearing is on its way out the door, as i had a similiar problem in my old 87 mustang (yes, another v8 convert), but that his me at once due to a freak clutch...uh, explosion...lets not go there...
Anyway, i need some more ideas. I asked around at the local auto parts stores, and i got nada.
Thanks for the help/info/any pointing in the right direction. I did searchs on this board...hondaswap...automotiveforums, blah, blah, blah, but there was nothing near to this.
Again, later and thanks...
