I use purolators. There was a oil filter comparo on another site showing how fram was just awful. The purolator was good and costs less than fram.

okay again, fram and filtech and toyo roki all make the new smaller filters, It's not just fram. You can get a new smaller filter from any of the above company's. I know fram has nothing to do with the filters except putting them together the way Honda wants.
Honda claims to get better filtering from the newer smaller filter design so I think it's probably worth it to go with the newer ones. I know a tech who bought two cases of the older bigger filters made by filtech because fram started making the smaller ones for honda. I think if you have faith in Honda/Acura, you should know they wouldn't make a shitty filter. That's my take on it. My filters never stay on long enough to do damage anyways. My oil looks new still when I change it on both my daily drivers. I think when ppl start paying more than 5 dollars for an oil filter they are spending too much. It's like this time I was in line at an auto parts place(pepboys) and this guy was asking about spark plugs for his Honda, the parts guy told him that NGK's were junk and that platinum bosch was best for his car. The guy was all convinced and the parts guy went to go get the plugs. I asked the guy what kind of honda he had and he said it was a civic hx. I almost laughed. I asked how much for the bosch plugs and he said like 3 bucks a piece. This is the same thing with the oil filter's.it's just an aftermarket company that wants to make money so they hype up the parts to make them sound all better, who has seen the ads on tv for the "high milage oil", ha ha nice marketing! I have an 85 accord I better go get that! Come on, it's an oil filter. If it was so much better I think Honda would have it on the cars stock. It's bullshit, but if it makes you feel better at night buy it.

your absolutely right.. its JUST on oil filter.. JUST a conister placed with the intention of removing tiny debris from your engines oil.. youve really inspired me.. the next time i change my oil im just going to tape on a sock in a plastic bag.. who the hell needs an oil filter anyway...

No need to be a smartass, I'm just saying 10-15 bucks for a mobil 1 oil filter that works the same as a OEM honda filter is stupid and ppl are getting taken. Not to mention that Honda uses a lower pressure bypass in their filters which most aftermarket company's do not. If the filter becomes clogged(very rare) it will not bypass and the engine will starve for oil until it dies. but hey I'm just a factory trained honda tech, WTF do I know... Autozone knows more than Honda about everything, just a couple or weeks ago they told me I could use regular power steering fluid because they were all out of the Honda compatible type. Nice informed ppl over there.

Ahh.. I think this is where there could be some slight confusion. The Fram made Honda filters with the cardboard insides were the larger ones. I remember that there was discussion on HT a while ago about Honda's switch to the smaller filters. These are the filters you're probably talking about. Now, I guess the question is whether or not there are construction differences between the different manufacturers' current (smaller) filters. I know you'll swear up and down that they make it to Honda's specs but I'd really like to see some people cut them open. Just for kicks.

To my knowledge, Fram never made a big(older style) filter for Honda. Maybe it's possible I never seen it.

Both Honda OEM filters never had the cardboard in them, that was a Fram design.

To end this thread right I guess I'll have to open up a bunch of different filters to show you guys. Give me a couple days and I'll post pics.
