As a 38yrs+ person i have to reply. I LOVE my 93 hatch! I had a 93 Z34 lumina & a 82 targa 911 before i got my baby .
My civic IS BETTER ON GAS, Cheaper to mod(not that i was thinking that when i bought it), and you'll love the looks on people faces when they see your GRAY hair . One GREAT thing i learned from my dad was, " I enjoy the HONDA, It doesn't matter if others don't know i have money"(about his 89 prelude, which he WOULDN'T let me drive ). my car.

dont get discouraged, theres always gonna be someone even less expected to be driving one...... my english teacher for my school is about 42.... hes driving around in a black 5th coupe, and he just bought a ram air intake and firebomb muffler for it..... practicality over personality? never

40 aint to old, hell i BS'd with a guy that had an 89 CRX SI with a zc swap full suspension intake, header, exhaust, KAAZ, gutted pizza delivery/autocross car and he was 68. my buddy (99 JR charged SI) and his older brother (95 EX coupe w/fully sleeved/built turbo'd B18C) convinced their MOM to buy a 00 sedan and its running a tanabe exhaust, intake, eibach's, AGX's, JDM headlights and a license plate that reads "MUMZ CVC".
so the awnser is no 40 isnt to old to be working on and loving honda's.
word of advice though, choose your suspension carefully, cause it is the old ladys car and if what you pic is too stiff you'll never hear the end of it

40 is not too old to own a civic. No one is ever too old to own a civic. I see grandma's and grandpa's driving them all the time, although they're stock. My dad is 49 and he likes driving my civic (99 Civic EX). He normally drives his pick up truck around and when he drives my car, he tells me that he likes it. Why? Because it's so damn light and you can mash the gears up to pretty high rpm. Not like you can do that in a heavyass truck.
Anyway, I thought about selling my civic and getting something bigger too, like a Lexus or Benz or something all hooked up. I am barely 19 and even thought about this. When I sit and think about it, I don't wanna get rid of the civic. It's great on gas, not too pricey to maintain, and it's fun. Getting a luxury car or whatever is EXPENSIVE, but if you wanna go for the luxury/comfort, the choice is yours. That's why I was indecisive.
But yeah, the choice is yours. If you wanna get a civic, get it. I think you would love it as you already love your wife's.
