Default Turbo a d16y8 engine?

Well...I am not too sure where to go with performance upgrades with my car. I have the normal SOHC engine and I can maybe turbo it but I just don't know what to do. It is gonna be a couple grand to do the turbo but it would also be a couple grand to do an engine swap as well. I don't know if I should just do an engine swap to say...maybe a B series engine or even an H22 engine and get close to the equivalent amount of power of what a turbo would give my current engine. What do you all think? Should I swap out my d16 and throw in a better engine and build on top of that or try and milk out the most out of my current engine? Let me know what route you think I should take. I am just looking for more power and don't know which way to go.

My uncle (mechanic) who helps me with some of my car work is saying I shouldn't even bother doing an engine swap to any of those and he will help me do an engine swap with a small block from something. He was saying there are small blocks that can fit in my car and will tear up the road. I don't know. Lay it on me...which way should I go???????

wow small block huh...never heard of that being done but always a first for everything...i remember someone on here having the Y8 turbo'ed, think he got pretty good numbers from it...but me personally i'd go with an engine swap, a b18c or jdm type r would give you some nice power out of the box...b16a is a good choice also if you want to build from bottom up for lots of power since they somewhat lack torque, but that goes with most factory honda engines. H22 can be done just would need mount kit and could get costly, dont know havent really researched it all that much, but H22 would be good for straight roads, since its a bigger engine you'll be putting a lot of weight to the front and a better suspension might be needed for future

i have a turbo d16y8. on stock internals i put down i would guess low 200whp and barely less torque at 10lbs. i only have a greddy kit though, and a bigger turbo would get way more. my best time was 13.9@104mph with a 2.3sec 60' time...which definitely leaves room for improvement. i recently rebuilt my engine with pistons/rods/head studs, bigger injectors, and hondata to come soon. i'll let you know how it works out. keep in mind i have a tiny greddy 15g turbo. my goal is to run in the 12's on street tires with this turbo, and possibly low 12's or better with a bigger turbo setup and some head work. the d16's aren't THAT pathetic. plus, an h22 doesn't compromise your handling much at all. you probably won't even notice it in your coupe.

go with a b16 swap.plus later if you have it for a year or 2 and ge tired of it then you could just turbo the b16.after im threw with all my interior work that needs to be done"stupid little shit" then my new cam, then its turbo time baby. with a b16 you can get around 500 hp strong with a turbo b16 motor"honda tuning did it"

turbo the D, im doin it at the end of summer, check out turbod16.com great site with lots of info, dont let people talk u out of the SOHC turbo, its a good choice and very cost effective, for 2,500 bucks u can beat up on a lot of cars and get into the 13's. better than a swap if u ask me. and if u blow the engine a new D is really cheap.

as in small block V8? As in a 302 or 350? :wtf: Thats not really a good idea. I have a friend who looked into doing that to his CRX....you would have to get new everything engine-related, not to mention a specially made driveshaft and axle, rear brakes/suspension, etc. It's a lot of fabrication and a lot of money. It's just not worth it

Turbo it!!! I am planning to do the same in the next few months. A low boost wont tax the block at all and you get good returns on the hp and torque.

Well do I have to do any internel momds or can I take my engine as is and put a turbo kit in it and go from there? And after I get the kit is on, and I want to start getting more power, is that when I would want to start looking into doing some internal mods to get more power then? Help me on that guys/girls. Thanks again for the responses!!!!
