Shocks/struts/dampeners :)
ok, so my broke-ass is finally looking at shocks/struts (the debate over what they're called still goes on )
ok, I'm sure everyone and their mother is gonna suggest KGY XYG's. I don't really have a problem getting them ($320 shipped via Egay).
However, I'm just a daily driver. I don't race, and I rarely go that fast (well, the highways are a vice of mine h: ). I honestly don't think I need adjustable shocks/struts considering I don't autox, or any of that crap (no offense).
yes, I'm still gonna ride on the arospeed springs. I know you all probably think they suck, and for racing, I'm sure they do, but again, thats not my intention. Maybe eventually I'll replace them with something better, but for now, I need a good-to-decent shock/strut to mate with them.
I was looking at Tokico HP's (blues), and they were selling about $200 or so. But I dunno about those.
suggestions rock. people who own them rock even more. tia.

I've heard the blues are just OEM replacements, but a lot of people really like them. I think they would be fine since you have a modest drop. Do the blues have a warrenty on them like the illuminas?

The Tokico blues did well for me. I paired them with Skunk2 sleeves/springs, and I liked the ride with about 2.5" of drop. I had to put a notch in the rears though to clear the control arms on my 96 sedan. They held up for a year and a half, and that was through an accident where I jumped a curb and typical Ohio driving (Lots of pot holes). I finally blew the rear struts, and I think I will upgrade to an adjustable this time.

I think a year and a half should do me fine before I upgrade the suspension to better components (ie, tein full setup ).
even more perfect about this post is the fact you jumped a curb.
How long into the life of the dampeners was this stunt performed at?

I'ts been almost a year on my blues with GC coilovers no problems, they ride fine. I hit plenty of pot holes and I haven't blown them. Also they do come with a warranty so they are well worth the money.

btw, thanks for the good OT post :db:
speaking of topics....
Whats the word about those KYB GR-2's? I know they're essencially OE replacements, but again, a ~1.7" drop.... Plus, my next set of springs will probably be tein s-techs, and I heard they match good with the gr-2's......

see, there's a problem in reading all these old threads about suspension....
every time someone mentions the AGX's, they're always like, "because they're adjustable" as if its the only justification. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure they're great shocks, but what good does adjustability really give you for normal circumstances?
my problems come from the fact that I don't see myself jacking up the car every week to adjust the suspension. That, and the fact that, again, its a street car, and nothing more.
can someone please set my head straight h:

let me restate myself.....
Considering I found a set of AGX's for $310 shipped, there's still some consideration for them.... They're only $100 more than the GT-2's/Tokico blues......
so, other than the obvious adjusting, what other benifits come from adjustable shocks.
Here's the main deal:
While I love performance-oriented handleing, I don't think my ass will.... I am in my car roughly 5-6 hours a day, sometimes more, occasionally less. The roads here arn't too bad. I mean, they're not perfect, but there's not potholes every 5 minutes. I live in a city, so thats a benifit. Again, no autox, no drag, no street race, just the occasional mash of the gas pedal and some fun when no one's around, but thats not that often. There are railroad crossings and shit to deal with, so that may come to issue. I guess I want a ride that has slightly more bias twords comfort than stiffness.
does that help? h:
